Armed criminals in Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 have taken a group of foreign people and guides hostage in a remote region. The police 🚔 said in a statement on Monday that they are sending a rescue group.
Among the hostages held for ransom is an Australian academic. The number of hostages is still not confirmed. The police stated the negotiations are ongoing for the people held in the village of Fogoma'iu in the Southern Highlands of the country.
The police said about the criminal group:
They can release their captives and will be treated fairly through the criminal justice ⚖️ system, but failure to comply and resisting arrest could cost these criminals their lives.
All forces will be used to free the hostiles. Let us hope 🙏🏿 that they will be saved.
