Chelsea's manager Thomas Tuchel has been sacked. The decision was made by the new owners of the club, following a bad start into the season, losing 3:0 against Leeds United and 2:1 against Southampton. The last match, their first match this season in the Champions League, Dinamo Zagreb won 1:0. In the Premier League Chelsea is 6th place, having won only three of six league games. The owners posted an internet statement which read: "As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition." "Chelsea's coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach. "There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made."

Thomas Tuchel, a German manager, had actually shown a great start, taking over in 2021, and winning the Champions League only five months later. Before he had been the manager of Paris Saint German, and Chelsea's former manager was Frank Lampard. The team had lost good players in the summer transfer window. Antonio Rüdiger, Timo Werner, and Andreas Christensen left the Club completely, while Callum Hudson-Odi and Romelu Lukaku were signed on loan. Because of the many players leaving the squad, Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Kalidiou Koulibaly, and Pierre Emerick-Aubamejang joined the team. In total, Chelsea spent 282 Million on the new players.

The group that now owns Chelsea is led by Todd Boehly, an American Investor who also owns stakes in the MLB's Los Angeles Dodgers, the NBA's Los Angeles Sparks and the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. He bought the Club from Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich for more than 5 billion earlier this year. The Club had been put up for sale, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Now that Tuchel isn't manager anymore, Zinèdine Zidane will probably take over, but Roger Schmidt, who now is manager of Benfica Lisbon is also a big candidate. Tuchel will maybe become new manager of RB Leipzig, a German team who fired its manager Domenico Tedesco.

First team coach Anthony Barry is expected to take over temporarily and hopefully a new trainer will be appointed till the 7th league match against Fulham, and Chelsea will face the Austrian team Salzburg in the next Champions League group match. Before the big soccer break, the team will still have to battle last Champions League finalist Liverpool, who also didn't have a great season start.
