Fights in Northern Kosovo 🇽🇰

A shootout 🔫 between police 🚔 and heavily armed people occurred in the north of Kosovo 🇽🇰.

"We see armed, uniformed people, heavy weapons. they are shooting at us, we are shooting," said Veton Eljsani, deputy commander of the Kosovo Police for the North region.

The incident is another big escalation in the Balkan region. The Northern Region is mostly inhabited by Serbs, which see themselves as part of Serbia 🇷🇸 and not Kosovo. In 2008, Kosovo split apart from Serbia and is viewed as a breakaway state by the Serbian Government who want Kosovo 🇽🇰 as a part of them. This causes reoccurring conflicts in the whole country and destabilizes it.

On Saturday night 🌙 the police 🚔 noticed two heavy trucks 🚚 without license plates blocking 🚫 the entrance to a bridge 🌉 in Banjska. 1 police officer was killed, and another injured in the incident as shots were fired between the people in the trucks and the police.The government in Kosvo believes that the attack was led by a Serbian criminal gang.
