The United States military has just announced that three of its service members have been killed following the attacks on Iran. These are the first American casualties in the operation against the Middle Eastern country.

The announcement comes on the second day of the attacks on Iran carried out by the US and Israel.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed in a statement that three US service members were killed and five others have been "seriously wounded" in the operation.

"Several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions and are in the process of being returned to duty. Major combat operations continue, and our response effort is ongoing," it added.

"The situation is fluid, so out of respect for the families, we will withhold additional information, including the identities of our fallen warriors, until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified," it added.

Israel and the US continued to launch attacks throughout Sunday, aiming to remove the Iranian government. Trump told Fox News on Sunday that things were "moving quickly" during the US operation on Iran, claiming it had already succeeded in the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other members of the political top brass.

"I'm not worried about anything, and things are going well," he said.

"Iran would have had a nuclear weapon within two weeks if it weren't for our strikes against its nuclear facilities, and then this type of attack wouldn't have been possible," he added.

Iran has vowed retaliation for the killing of Khamenei and the ongoing US-Israeli attacks on the country. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Al Jazeera that there were no "limits to our self-defence."
