What to know:
On June 6, Allied forces from France 🇫🇷, the United States 🇺🇸, Great Britain 🇬🇧, Canada 🇨🇦 and Australia 🇦🇺 landed on the coastline of the German-occupied coastline of Normandy. The largest amphibious invasion in history laid the foundation for the Allies to defeat Nazi-Germany in World War II.

Macron awarded the Legion of Honor to Christian Lamb. She is a 104-year-old British veteran who made the maps for the D-Day landing. Along with her, 11 other US veterans were honored with the same award.
"There are things worth fighting for. Although I wish there was another way other than trying to kill each other," said Stitt, who turns 100 in July. "We'll learn one day, but then I won't be here anymore."
D-Day Veteran Walter Stitt
