After he discussed US attack plans in a secure chat group, criticism of Trump's security advisor Waltz grew increasingly louder. According to media reports, he is now resigning from his position.

Mike Waltz, US President Donald Trump's National Security Advisor, is facing final resignation after just a few months, according to consistent media reports. The so-called chat group affair is cited as the reason.
Waltz discussed US military attack plans on Houthi positions in Yemen in a Signals chat with high-ranking government officials. However, this chat was presumably not secure, and Waltz also added - probably unintentionally - the editor-in-chief of the US magazine The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, to the group. The security advisor stated in an interview in March that he took "full responsibility" for the security lapse. He explained that he had confused the journalist's number with someone else's and added it to his phone.
Democrats want him gone
The opposition Democrats immediately called for the resignation of Waltz and Defense Secretary Hegseth, who shared details of the attack plans in the chat. The Democrats criticized both for endangering the safety of US military personnel.
The news agency Politico reported in March that Waltz had previously violated security regulations on several occasions. Security-relevant information was allegedly discussed several times in the Signal group chat.
First change this term in Trumps inner circle
After the incident, President Donald Trump initially described Waltz as a "good man" and the situation as a "slip-up." However, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth subsequently came under increasing pressure. The Washington Post reported that Trump was angry with Waltz and wanted to replace him accordingly.
After more than 100 days in office, Waltz's departure would be Trump's first major restructuring within the narrow sphere of influence of the US president. Along with Waltz, his vice president, Alex Wong, is also expected to be replaced.
