At least five banks in Lebanon are being held by armed depositors. The depositors are trying to get back frozen savings in the bank system. In the southern city of Gazieh a man stormed the bank and poured gasoline onto the floor, threatening to burn the branch if not granted access to his money. The man retrieved $19,200, giving it to a man waiting outside the bank before letting himself be taken by the authorities. Because of the incidents, the caretaker Interior Minister Hassan Mawlawi called for a emergency security meeting, to discuss which security measures should be taken. Since a economic crisis that began three years ago, most banks froze the savings of the population. The storming of banks in Lebanon is becoming very frequent, a similar episode happened two days ago.
