Dozens killed in Bangladesh flood

At least 59 people have died while monsoom storms were raging in Bangladesh. Weather forecasters say the rain is going to get worse in the next few days. Over the last weeks the downpour has been the strongest since 2004, the goverment says. A 23 - year old told multiple news agencies: "After waiting a whole day on the roof of our home, a neighbour rescued us with a makeshift boat. My mother said she has never seen such floods in her entire life". The Assam state in India has also been ht by the floods in the past days. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told journalists he had instructed district officials to provide all necessary help. In Assam, 1.8 million people have been hit by the floods. Goverment officials say Bangladesh is at the brink of a humanitarian crisis. Syed Rafiqul Haque, a former lawmaker in Bangladesh said: "Almost the entire Sylhet-Sunamganj belt is under water and millions of people are stranded". Environmentalists warn that climate change could worsen the storms in Asian countries.
