Israel launched missiles in Gaza, apparently targeting Islamic Jihadists. Tensions begin to rise between Israel and Palestine. Islamic Jihadist leader Tayseer Al Jabari, who was a commander of the Quds Brigade, and member of its military council, the armed wing of Islamic Jihadist, was killed in the strike. At least nine people were killed and 55 were injured. The Israeli military called the operation: "Breaking Dawn". The Hamas, which control the area of Gaza said: "The Israeli enemy, who started the escalation against Gaza and committed a new crime, must pay the price and bear full responsibility for it." Islamic Jihadists is the the smaller of the two military groups in Gaza. In recent months Israel has been repeatedly launching military operations.
The Jihadists responded with over 100 rockets across Israel. Mist of them were caught by the Iron Dome defence shield, but in some cities alarms sounded. This conflict flare up is one critical escalation in the conflict.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict explained
After World War One Britain took over the area, formerly belonging to the Ottoman Empire that fell. Britain inhabited the area with a Jewish minority and an Arab majority. For the Jews it was their ancestral home, but the Arabs opposed that. From 1920 till 1940 the tensions were rising. More Jews arrived there, fleeing from Europe and the Nazis. In 1947 the U.N. introduced a plan. Palestine should be divided into Jewish and Arab states. Jewish leaders accepted that, but the Palestinian people rejected the idea. Britain left the two states to settle their differences. The fighting escalated, and troops from neighbouring Arab countries invaded Israel. A ceasefire was declared, but never a full peace agreement. Israel sees the whole city of Jerusalem as its own, but the Palestinians say the eastern part of the city is theirs.
The situation now:
The Gaza Strip is controlled by the Palestinian group Hamas, who have fought against Israel multiple times. Israel is controlling the border very strictly, so no weapons can come to the Hamas. In every round of violence that has been fought both sides claim victory. Even though peace talks have been going on and off for 26 years, both sides can't agree on anything.
