In Tansania the tribe of the Maasai are being transported away from their homes in the north to other parts of the country. The government said 300 Maasai families had chosen to leave, and already 20 are in movement away from their houses. Human Rights activists speak of the government forcing the Maasai to leave. In the last weeks protests of the Maasai had been violently broken up, killing one man and injuring many. Goverment officials say that the reason is that there are too many wild and dangerous animals living beside the Maasai. The real reason for the taking away of the Maasai is that the goverment wants to build a huge park full of animals that the visitors can shoot. A man from the U.A.E will start to build the park. The Maasai are currently terrified, and are pleading to the EU and the U.S to help them. One Massai wrote in a letter: "We are asking for your help to let our government know that our land is not for sale and that we will continue to resist this longstanding assault on our rights and the ecological integrity of our land. We are therefore calling on your organisation to speak out against these abuses and help us prevent the extinction of our people". There are around 150.000 Maasai that are going to be taken away, and almost 70% of their land will be lost. The Maasai are not allowed to grow any crops in the region because of the UNESCO ranking of the pastures, and water shortages have worsened the situation. Almost 60.000 animals have died because of the water shortages. Let us hope something will save these poor people. Who's with me ? ☮📰🇹🇿
