A suspect held over the disappearance of Dom Phillips, a British journalist, and Bruno Pereira, a indigenous affairs expert, admitted he had killed both. The suspect, as the police says, is named Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira. He had taken the police to the place where he supposedly killed the duo. Federal Police representative Eduardo Alexandre Fontes said the police have already found human remains. The investigation is continuing, so more people could be arrested at any moment. The deaths of both men cannot be confirmed till the bodies have been found. The case has caused rising attention for the dangers journalists face in Brazil. Between 2009 and 2019, more than 300 people were killed in Brazil because of land conflict over the Amazon. The Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro said if the pair was killed, the bodies must have gone missing in the Javari River. Alesandra Sampaio, Phillips wife, urged the authorities to share more details of the case, to prevent further killings. In a statement she wrote: "This tragic outcome puts an end to the anguish of not knowing Dom and Bruno's whereabouts. Now we can bring them home and say goodbye with love." Phillips had worked for " The Guardian", and moved to Brasil 15 years ago. The now 57 year old, had been researching for a book about the Amazon and how it is used for the economy.
