Thousands of people attended US wide demonstrations. They all want that the US government tightens the law on guns. They marched with signs saying "Enough is Enough", or "Protect Kids, Not Guns". In Washington a huge crowd attended the "March for our Lives". One reason for the demonstrations was the shooting in Uvalde, Texas. An 18 year old shot 19 children and 2 teachers. In the Washington demonstration Manuel Oliver, a man who lost his child in a shooting, said that students of every age should stay away from school until the laws change. US president Joe Biden told the demonstrating people that he is on their side. Shootings are a big problem in the US. In the Constitution it is allowed that everyone can have a gun, because when the Constitution was written, the Wild West still existed. Being a dangerous place, everyone had the right to defend themselves. But now, a crazy person can just buy a gun and shoot. Of course you are not allowed to shoot anybody like that, but people can do that because it is too easy to buy guns. In the US, here is how you buy a gun: Step 1:Pass an instant background check that considers criminal convictions, domestic violence and immigration status. Step 2: Buy a gun. It's so easy. Where in Germany, you have to join a shooting club, get a hunting license, show special knowledge of firearms, maybe have to have a written exam about it, or practical demonstration. If under 25, you have to submit a certificate of mental fitness from a public doctor. Further, you have to pass a background check of criminal history and apply for a permit to purchase a specific gun, and then maybe even another background check. Only then you can buy the gun. That is the big difference. And in Germany, when you buy a gun, you agree to house inspections. That is not the case in the US. In the US Constitution, Second Amendment, it states:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Another problem is that the Republicans, simply won't budge when it comes to guns. A lot of them just say they will be kicked out of the job if they do that. Some people also think the Second Amendment is missinterpretatet.

March for our Lives: No Guns in US

Own Opinion: I think that people should not be allowed to buy a gun when they are 18 years old. Anyone can get their hands on a gun, and that is a problem. Humans, who are maybe mentally ill, just shoot around. It's clearly more dangerous to live in the US than in Germany. So, why doesn't the US say, no guns?
