Queen Elizabeth the II is dead. She died at 96, and is Britain's longest-reigning British monarch in all history. Her rule spanned seven decades, and the Queen lived through a lot, being born in 1926. The Queen saw the last of the British empire and navigated the country through global scandals and problems. Elizabeth ascended the throne in 1952 after the death of her father King George VI. Now that she is dead, her son Charles has immediately become King of England. Queen Elizabeth the II died in Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Before her death health issues had been announced.

People gathered outside of the gates of Buckingham Palace, crying and quietly singing "God Save the Queen".

Tearful faces could be seen outside the gates of Buckingham Palace on Thursday, as news spread of Queen Elizabeth II's death.

During her rule she tried to become close to the public, and accomplished it being the most recognised woman in the world.

Most leaders of the world are honouring the Queen. The President of Ireland Michael Higgins wrote in a statement: "On behalf of the people of Ireland, may I express my heartfelt sympathy to His Majesty King Charles and to the Royal Family on their very great personal loss. May I offer my deepest condolences to the British people and to the members of the Commonwealth on the loss of a unique, committed and deeply respected Head of State."

United Nations General Secretary Gutteres wrote in a statement:

"I am deeply saddened at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I extend my sincere condolences to her bereaved family, the Government and people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the wider Commonwealth of Nations."

The sports world is doing the same, as the Premier League also honoured the Queen, and the same did the Formula 1.
