Following the attack on his house, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe said he will resign on July 13. On Twitter the PM wrote: "To ensure the continuation of the Government including the safety of all citizens I accept the best recommendation of the Party Leaders today, to make way for an All-Party Goverment." Wickremesinghe has not yet submitted his letter of resignation. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Sri Lanka's speaker of Parliament says the president informed him that he will also resign on July 13. Yesterday protesters clashed with the armoured police, running away from tear gas. The protesters were even caught swimming in the President's pool. 100000 people massed around the President's house. The President was not there. Other protesters also breached the PM's residence, setting it on fire, as it was streamed by local media. The unrests have been triggered by a financial crisis. Most of the 22 million people in Sri Lanka are faced with soaring food prices and waiting hours to buy fuel. Schools have been suspended. Most people can't be driven to the hospitals because of the fuel shortage. Wickremesinghe said that Sri Lanka has been talking with the International Monetary Fund, to bring back a working economy.
