The terrorist group Taliban claim they were not aware of the presence of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in the Afghan capital Kabul, who had been killed in a US-drone strike.

"The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has no information about Ayman al-Zawahiri's arrival and stay in Kabul." "The leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has instructed the investigative and intelligence agencies to conduct a comprehensive and serious investigation into the various aspects of the incident."

Taliban, in a statement on Thursday

Al-Zawahiri had been residing in the Sherpur neighbourhood, in a house where former officials of the previous Afghan government had lived, and a site where there had been a old military base. After the civil conflict with the Taliban the houses in the neighbourhood had been abandoned.

On Monday Joe Biden said that a drone strike had killed al-Zawahiri, the former Taliban leader. A senior US administration official had said that multiple Taliban figures had been aware of his presence, hiding his family after the strike.
