The Tigray People's Liberation Forces (TPLF) said they are ready to observe an immediate ceasefire with the Ethiopian government, and accept an African-Union led peace process to end the conflict. The TPLF said in a statement: "We are ready to abide by an immediate and mutually agreed cessation of hostilities in order to create a conducive atmosphere."
The TPLF had previously demanded the government restore major services to Tigray before talks can hold. The United Nations (UN) welcomed the development and is ready to support the peace progress led by the African Union, as UN spokesman Stephane Djarric said. Secretary-General of the UN Antonio Guterres added that all parties should seize the opportunity of peace. The conflict between the two parties has been going on for nearly two years, last month the hostilities resumed after a months long ceasefire.
