Russia continues to advance in Donbass and continues its attacks on energy infrastructure. But, according to Ukrainian data, the army is recording high losses.

In recent weeks, the missile and drone war between Russia and Ukraine has intensified. Meanwhile, ground offensives have slowed down due to the deteriorating and increasingly rainy weather. The fighting in the southern part of Donbass remains extremely fierce and intense. According to official Ukrainian reports, Russia lost more than 2,000 soldiers on Thursday, including wounded and dead. This is the highest number in one day so far and corresponds to 2 battalions.

Russian troops continued their advance in southern Donbass. They captured the village of Zhovte south of Pokrovsk and could now advance further along the Solona River. If this Russian attack continues in this direction, they could soon approach the city of Pokrovsk from the south. Russia is already fighting in Kurakhove and has captured the eastern part of the city. Russian troops are also advancing towards Velyka Novosilka and threatening to encircle the Ukrainian defenders there. The city is a strategically important logistical hub for Ukraine as it is close to the front line. Ukraine will likely try everything to hold Velyka Novosilka because if the city falls into Russian hands, it would make it much more difficult to support the Ukrainian defense lines in the Zaporizhia region. Russia continued its massive, coordinated attacks in 2 offensives last week against Ukraine's energy infrastructure. One took place on Wednesday and Thursday, the others on the following night from Thursday to Friday. On the first night, Russia attempted to hit energy-related objects across Ukraine. On Thursday and Friday, the attacks then targeted the western regions of the country, where air defenses are comparatively weaker.

In the latter attack, according to official Ukrainian data, 79 of 88 cruise missiles of various types launched were intercepted. Meanwhile, all 97 drones were shot down.
However, the massive attacks by cheap drones continue to overwhelm Ukraine's air defenses and open the way for more precise rocket and cruise missile attacks. Ukraine estimates that Russia is capable of launching at least two to three waves of attacks of similar magnitude, as it has built up significant stockpiles over the past few weeks.
