The US government has declared the outbreak of monkeypox a public health emergency, as they said on Thursday. Monkeypox cases are rising all over the US, there are over 6,600 confirmed cases in every State except Wyoming and Montana. The first monkeypox case in the US was confirmed in mid-May. Even the WHO has said that monkeypox is a public health emergency last month ( if you want more information about the WHO and monkeypox copy this link into your browser: https://derratgeber131431787.wordpress.com/2022/07/23/who-erklaert-ausbruch-der-affenpocken-zur-notlage/ ).
US-President Joe Biden named Robert Fenton the White House monkeypox response coordinator. Fenton is a regional Federal Emergency Management Agency administrator. Biden's administration has been criticized for not responding faster. One criticism was that after the first case of monkeypox, the government waited more than three weeks till they reacted, in orde to stock up on the monkeypox vaccine.
There is also a chance that there will be a change to how monkeypox vaccines are given. If the change would be approved, monkeypox vaccine doses would be smaller and the injection would not be delivered as always under the fat skin layer, but underneath the skin layer.
"In recent days, it's become clear to all of us that given the continued spread of the virus, we're at a critical inflection point, dictating the need for additional solutions to address the rise in infection rates." "The goal has always been to vaccinate as many people as possible." "There are some advantages to intradermal administration including an improved immune response to the vaccine." "It's important to note that overall safety and efficacy profile will not be sacrificed for this approach. Please know, we've been exploring all scientifically feasible options and we believe this could be a promising approach."
