Donald Trump threatens Nigeria with military intervention in a new post. According to him, the country permits the "killing of Christians." All the latest news here, reflecting current trends:

US President Trump informed the Department of Defense that he was preparing for possible action against Nigeria to end the "heinous atrocities." On Friday, the US president had already commented on the situation of Christians in Nigeria and announced his intention to place the country on a watch list of countries with restricted religious freedom. He justified the move by alleging that Christians there were being "slaughtered" by Islamists.
The African country, with approximately 230 million inhabitants, is divided into a predominantly Muslim north and a largely Christian south. Extremist groups like Boko Haram have been attempting for years to impose a radical interpretation of Islamic law. However, the attacks predominantly target the north.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu—himself a Muslim and married to a pastor—responded promptly. In a social media post, he wrote: “The portrayal of Nigeria as religiously intolerant neither reflects our national reality nor acknowledges the government’s consistent and sincere efforts to protect the religious freedom of all Nigerians.”
He added that Nigeria is “working with the United States government and the international community to deepen understanding and cooperation in protecting communities of all faiths.”
