The US Justice Department shall release the files from its investigation into sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The release shall be completed within 30 days, as attorney general Pam Bondi confirmed following a nearly unanimous vote by Congress to force Donald Trump's administration to make them public.

The Epstein scandal has been a thorn in Trump's side for months, due to the fact that prior to his career as a politician, he and Epstein visited each other's real estate properties regularly. They socialized frequently throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, including attending parties at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. Many US voters believe that the Trump administration has continuously covered up the president's ties to Epstein, and that Trump actually knew of the crimes being carried out.

Bondi confirmed that the DOJ will release its Epstein-related material within 30 days, as required by legislation that passed the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and Senate yesterday. "We will continue to follow the law and encourage maximum transparency," she said. She added that the department will also protect the identities of any sex trafficking victims whose names appear in the documents.

It is unclear if the release will be comprehensive, as the agency may have to hold back material that could impact Trump-ordered investigations of Democratic figures who were associated with Epstein.
