Finally, there is another update on the theft of the valuable jewelry from the Louvre: Of the four criminals wanted in recent days, two have now been arrested. As the Paris public prosecutor's office confirmed, the individuals are in custody on suspicion of gang theft and forming a criminal organization.

Previously, the French newspaper "Le Parisien" and the magazine "Paris Match" reported that the suspect was arrested at Charles de Gaulle Airport on Saturday evening. Authorities arrested him shortly before he was about to board his flight to Algiers. The second suspect was arrested later that evening in the Paris suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis.

The men, who were known to police, were identified using DNA found at the crime scene, according to the television station France Télévisions. Both suspects are said to be in their thirties. Information on the whereabouts of the stolen goods has not been provided.

After information about the arrests had already become public, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau criticized the hasty disclosure of information by third parties, saying it was damaging the investigation. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez congratulated the investigating authorities on their swift success in the manhunt in a post on the online platform X.

In total, police are searching for four perpetrators: two of them allegedly entered the Louvre Museum's Galérie d'Apollon using a forklift, while two others were involved in the theft and enabled the perpetrators to escape on scooters.

The number of investigators working on the case has increased from 60 to "more than 100." The investigation is being led by the Brigade for Combating Gang Crime (BRB) and the Central Office for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property (OCBC).
